Ryan Pivovar
About
Ryan Pivovar is an electronic music producer, releasing as Josh Coffee on his own imprint, Still Out There Somewhere. His production is an unlikely marriage of IDM and classical composition, most recently on The Maze (STILL-003), pressed to vinyl in an edition of 100 by Hellbender.
He also composes for film. His score for The City, a short film by Rayne York, was recently nominated for Best Short Score at the International Sound & Film Music Festival, whose past honorees include Hans Zimmer and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
A graduate of the University of North Texas Music Composition program, Ryan writes about techno from a perspective in which theory and form are given greater weight. His writing appears in Inverted Audio, a London-based publication and record store focused on the outer regions of electronic music.
